DIVINE NAKSHATRAOPEN THE SKY

Choghadiya

Choghadiya divides the daytime (sunrise to sunset) and the night (sunset to sunrise) each into eight equal parts; the day's first part takes the name of the weekday's lord, and the night's first the lord fifth from it.

An almanac convention, as the app shows it.

The day runs Surya, Shukra, Budha, Chandra, Shani, Guru, Mangala from the weekday's lord; the night from the lord fifth from it, Surya, Guru, Chandra, Shukra, Mangala, Shani, Budha: the table of the Uttarakhand Open University course text (Muhurta Vichara 3.4.4). BOB-Nakshatra's research found no Sanskrit source for choghadiya, and almanacs carry two different night tables; the app follows this one.
